My mother was a truly incredible artist, she most loved her watercolors, oil painting and gardening, but she was also a talented author, sketch artist, and clothing designer. I unfortunately, did not inherit an excess of these talents and attributes. That being said, I did acquire the creative eye, appreciation, and enjoyment of artistic self expression. So, my daughter and I spent the better part of a week painting.
During the global pandemic of COVID 19, I have felt much anxiety and stress over wondering how I am feeling, worrying about my husband, all my children in different places around the world, my grandchildren and the rest of my relatives, friends and every other person in the world. I feel I must keep my emotions bottled up or it might overflow and not stop. I must be strong. So, by using some of this free time to be productive around the house and being creative helps to remember the sweeter and lovelier parts of God's creation, I am hoping to find some balance physically and a bit of calm spiritually. I believe it is important during this time, where we can not be in control of this illness, that we find something that we CAN control and be productive. Tomorrow my daughter and I are going to make 10 masks for my niece in Hood River and some surgical surgical scrub caps for MCMC.
This was my first time painting my own picture outside of a commercial two hour painting class. We started with a tutorial for inspiration and quickly our paintings took on a mind and spirit of their own. My painting is inspired by the beautiful open views of wheat fields sprawling for miles until seemingly stopped by the majestic force of Mt. Hood. This is a view I have enjoyed for the past 40 years of my life. While my daughters' is more inspired by the general area that is North Central Oregon, what she considers her hearts home. Here is our process in action.
It took us two days just to finish the sky and mountains. Lol! As it stands, I am still trying to decide on just how I want to accomplish the fence; I would like it in the front of my fields. Angela is struggling with her hill and signature. Hopefully, we will get that figured out this week. I have done some sketching on fences, wheat and Lupine. My daughter and I took a drive around Sherman County to take pictures of rock formations. We decided in order to paint the next portion of our pictures, we need different brushes. So, thanks to Amazon, they should arrive Tuesday and we will continue our painting!
